“Good” news for Ranelagh

Ranelagh Primary School was  inspected by Ofsted under their new inspection framework on the 19th-20th November 2019. The inspectors rated the school “Good” as well as recognising the improvements made since their last “Good” inspection in 2011.

In their report, Ofsted highlighted the school’s high expectations of all pupils, their engaging curriculum, pupils’ wellbeing and enjoyment of their learning, teaching of key skills in English and maths and the calm behaviour displayed across the school: “The school provides opportunities for all pupils ‘to be the best that they can be’.

Reading was given a particular mention, with inspectors impressed by both the teaching of key reading skills, as well as the love of reading that the school engenders in its pupils: “Pupils learn to read well at this school. Leaders make sure that all staff see reading as the top priority. ...The love of reading that staff model is infectious.”

Ranelagh School’s curriculum which aims to be “broad, balanced, creative and rooted in experiences” is something that the school are particularly proud of. The enjoyment and engagement of pupils in their learning is at the heart of the Ranelagh experience and this was something that inspectors recognised in their report: “Pupils enjoy attending school. Teachers make learning interesting. Pupils listen with care and respect the views of each other. They can get on with their learning because everyone behaves well.”

The overall judgements were:

Overall Effectiveness: Good

Attainment: Good

Teaching: Good

Leadership and Management: Outstanding
