Ranelagh Year 4's Visit Steve McQueen Exhibition - and see themselves as art!

Year four classes from Ranelagh took a  rather special and long- awaited trip to Tate Britain last week. They went to see their class portraits that were photographed last year by specially trained Tate photographers, as part of the Steve McQueen Year 3 Project. Both Ranelagh and Kensington Primary took part in the exhibition, which included  1504 schools and 3,128 images of Year 3 children across London.

The children were all smiles (in true celebrity style!) when they saw themselves on a 100 feet cinema style screen at the Tate.

They then visited the Duveen gallery where they were exhibited alongside 76,000  seven and eight year old children.

One child commented, “I couldn’t wait for this day and will now bring my family to see my portrait too.”

On leaving the exhibition at the end of the day, the children were given a special pack with family tickets -  so they can return again with their loved ones.

Children also enjoyed looking  at A range of artwork and were in awe of the sculptures at the Tate.
