Curwen Pupils Attend Wildlife Photographer of the Year Event at Number Ten Downing Street

Children from Curwen Primary School in Plaistow visited Number 10 Downing Street on Wednesday 16th October to attend  a special preview of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition. The children were among a group of only 20 children invited to attend the event, alongside the judges of the prestigious awards, winning photographers and scientific and conservation leaders. The exhibition included the winning images from its fifty-fifth Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year is a global competition. This year it attracted over 48,000 entrants from 100 countries, while last year’s exhibition was shown at 48 venues worldwide and was visited by 1.7 million people.

The winners of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition will be revealed on Tuesday 15th October at a ceremony at the Natural History Museum, London, which owns, produces and exhibits the international competition. Visitors will be able to see all the 100 awarded images in lightbox displays at the Natural History Museum from Friday 18th October.

The Curwen pupils were selected to attend the special event due to their reputation for what Ryan Maskell, of the Prime Minister’s Office, described as, “a fantastic commitment to fieldwork and the local environment”.  He went on to describe the children as excellent ambassadors for the school:  “We just wanted to say what an absolute delight it was having the children and staff from Curwen School attend Number 10 today. The children were very engaged with all the exhibits and had lots of questions for the staff. They have definitely made the school proud!”
