Our Members
Our Members oversee the Board of Trustees and ensure that the Trust adheres to our agreed vision and values. Meeting annually, Members have the power to dissolve the Trust Board, should they believe the direction of the Trust is no longer aligned to the guiding principles that founded it.
The Tapscott Learning Trust has five members:
Cllr. Joy Laguda
Joy was born in Zimbabwe, arriving in the UK in 1971 to train as a nurse. She has served as a Labour councillor in Newham for more than 20 years, during which time her numerous posts have included serving on the Education Committee. Joy has served as an additional governor for schools within the Borough that have been in Special Measures.
Rashmi Makwana
Rashmi was a parent governor at Kensington Primary School, having attended the school himself, which he describes as giving him an excellent start in life. He is currently retired following a long career with the Metropolitan Police Service during which he served as part of the senior management team within the IT department.
In addition to his work with The Tapscott Learning Trust, Rashmi is actively involved in a range of other voluntary and charity work within his local community.
Nazre Ahmad
Formally. Chair of Governors at Curwen Primary School. Nazre Ahmad is a finance professional with extensive experience in large global organisations who has lived in London with his family for many years. When not working, he is a keen Aston Villa fan and is learning to cook.
Jackie Withnall
Jackie served as a Headteacher at a local school for 22 years and spent her whole career in Newham.
After retirement, she was a Governor at North Beckton Primary for eight years.
Jackie works part-time interviewing applicants for Teacher Training and as an Invigilator in a secondary school.
She is a volunteer for a Food Bank and is experiencing school again as a grandparent carer!
Jackie enjoys amateur theatre and baking.
Margaret Cameron-Ratchford
Margaret worked for Newham Council for over 25 years and a couple of years before she retired, she sought voluntary work to keep a connection with the Borough, which was when she became a governor at Kensington Primary School. Her connection with The Tapscott Trust began at the planning stage, and she became a Trustee in 2016, remaining on the Trust Board until her 9 years ended in 2025. During those 9 years, she has been a LAB member at North Beckton, Rebecca Cheetham Nursery and Ranelagh, as well as being a Chair at Kensington and Chair of the Trustees for 4 years – so she was delighted to be asked to become a Member to maintain, what is for her, a long and fulfilling relationship.
