The Tapscott Learning Trust are proud to be partnered with R.E Matters to deliver a Newham wide programme to support, inspire and transform learning in schools for Religious Education.
Through this, there is a wide range of continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities in Religious Education, SMSC and Collective Worship on offer as well as bespoke support on a school-by-school basis. Meet the RE Team
Claire Clinton: Director of Newham Religious Education, School Council and PSHE
Claire has been an advisory teacher for over 20 years working in Essex, Redbridge, Newham and Barking and Dagenham as well as nationally for the DfE, QCDA, TDA and for RE Today services. She is passionate about children and young people being given the tools to be able to learn about and learn from religious and philosophical beliefs and practices.
Claire is at present Director of RE and RSHE in Newham, as well as the RE advisor in Barking and Dagenham. She leads nationally on the RE Leadership Programme and is the NATRE RE Ambassador for London; she also leads the London and South East Areiac group and sits on the NASACRE executive where her brief is SACRE training and professional development. Claire is part of the Ofsted RE working group.

Taranum Afshan - Primary RE Advisor
Taranum has taught in East London for 12
years. She is an experienced primary school teacher and successful RE leader, having gained a gold REQM for her school. Taranum works to produce supports for all primary schools in Newham to help support teach our Agreed Syllabus, as well as working on national initiatives. At present she is working on the Freedom of Religion or Belief with the British government. Taranum helps lead our primary network meetings.

Marie Hardie - Primary RE & RSHE Advisor
Marie has taught for 20+ years in Newham
schools and in her career has taught all key stages as well as being an Advanced Skills teacher in PSHE and deputy head teacher in her primary school. She is an outstanding teacher, inspiring to watch and learn from. She is experienced in P4C (philosophy for children) and enjoys working in new schools and with new staff modelling high quality RE.

Catriona Martin - RE Advisor
Catriona has been involved in education for the last 30 years and has taught across all Key Stages within primary and secondary schools. She has developed and run national programmes, creating curriculum
resources for schools around shared values and themes. Catriona has had school leadership responsibility for the well-being of pupils, parents and staff. She is passionate about helping young people to work together to become the best versions of them-
selves.

Lucy Still - Secondary RE Advisor
Lucy has taught in inner London for 19 years
She is currently AHT at Plashet school with responsibility for student well-being. She has completed a Farmington Scholarship, in association with Oxford University, researching the impact of mindfulness on student well-being. Lucy has an MAPPCP (Masters in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology). She supports secondary RE in the borough as well as leading network meetings and training RE SCITT teachers. Lucy is trained in P4C (Philosophy for Children) and the MISP Mindfulness course.
