AET - Autism Education Trust - training

As an accredited provider of Autism Education Trust for Newham, The Tapscott Learning Trust offers a range of AET modules for both the schools and the early years programme.

Schools Good Autism Practice

This module is for practitioners who work with pupils aged 5–16 who have autism. It provides practical strategies to support these pupils and the module also takes participants through guidance on developing a pupil-centred education plan (PCEP). Although currently only students with SEN are required to have a PCEP, the vision is that if, in the long term, inclusive practice is embedded across a school provision, fewer pupils will require something additional to that which forms part of universal provision. Although not all staff who work with pupils with autism will be involved in the creation of a pupil-centred education plan, all staff will benefit from being aware of their purpose and content.

Schools Making Sense of Autism

This module is an awareness-raising module for all staff in a school community; whether they be teachers, learning support assistants, lunchtime supervisors, or office-based staff. The module provides an introduction to autism and the reasonable adjustments that need to be considered when working with pupils with ASD.

Early Years Good Autism Practice

This module is for practitioners in a range of Early Years Settings including pre-schools, nurseries, childminders, children’s centres and schools.

In this module, we take delegates through some of the distinct learning needs, strengths, and difficulties that children with ASD share, whilst helping participants to take note of individual differences. The course gives the opportunity to start thinking about a particular child with Autism and their learning needs, along with ways in which the setting can adjust and adapt their practice and the learning environment to support this child.

Early Years Making Sense of Autism

This module is an awareness-raising module for all practitioners in Early Years settings; whether they be teachers, learning support assistants, lunchtime supervisors or office-based staff. The course provides an introduction to autism and some initial, reasonable adjustments that need to be considered when working with younger children who have autism.

The module also provides input on the creation and use of a one-page profile for individual children. Although not all practitioners who come into contact with the child will be involved in the creation of this profile, everyone will benefit from having an understanding of the importance and impact of these profiles for individual EYFS children with ASD.
